With the help of my grandson, Matthew, we took some pictures of our one week old chickens who are each beginning to show their "true colors" as far as feathers. The lovely soft downy feathers will soon be in the past as their new mature true feathers emerge. I love the colors they will be as grown-ups. Check out our birthday photos, well actually only a one week birthday.

Wow, Spring has sprung in Northern California. I went out to the yard to try to figure out where to place our chicken coop and was amazed at all the beautiful spring flowers starting to show. Here is a close up of a bud of my Waterfall Magnolia shrub, gorgeous!
It opens to a pale pink beauty that looks so fragile, but really isn't.
Here is a picture of the shrub...it is really a nice addition to the yard although the blossoms don't last long, they are a special treat while they are here.
And under the redwoods, the daffodils are also blooming, love them!
Hey, didn't I go out here to check out where to put the coop? Oh well, its a little cool for that today, only about 55 now...I will wait til after lunch, supposed to be about 68 later, much better temp to mull about coops then.

Well, the pecking order is beginning...and Peep 4 (I really HAVE to name these ladies) is coming out as the head of the flock. She likes to peck everybody and especially the thermometer. I never said she was a rocket scientist, but really, the thermometer? She either thinks it is a really weird shaped chicken or she is having a hot flash....I can relate. I am off to spend the day at a card making party, what fun, but it does mean that my little chickies are on their own for the day....

All quiet on the chicken front last night....til about 2:30 when loud chirping woke me up...I was SURE they were in some kind of chicken trouble, so I got up to take a peep. They were all sleeping except one, who apparently wanted to party, cuz she was running around like crazy. I decided they were safe and went back to bed. This morning, they are all very mellow, just eating and sleeping and well, you know, they are chickens!

First Day Home!
Wow, I just brought my new baby chicks home from the store. I bought FIVE, even though I was only going for three....they were so darn cute, I couldn't help myself. I got two "easter eggers", one gold sex-link, one black dominique, and one white plymouth rock. Both my daughters, and my sister have been over to check them out and pronounce them "cute". My poor husband is now under the gun to finish the chicken coop before my "children" outgrow their lovely home in a cardboard box.
